ALL RECORDS SHATTERED! ‘Chennai Express’ is a rage at the box office

Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s movie Chennai Express has shattered all previous box office records and CREATED HISTORY by minting Rs. 100 crore in its opening weekend.

The action comedy entertainer was made at a budget of Rs70 crore.

Here’s how. On Thursday evening the film smashed the record of highest collection from paid previews (Rs. 6.75 crore net). On Friday, the Eid holiday, the film registered the highest opening day collection (Rs. 33.12 crore net, thereby breaking the Ek Tha Tiger record). The record breaking spree continued on Saturday and Sunday with the highest second and third day collections ever for a Bollywood film with figures of Rs. 28.05 crore net and Rs. 32.50 crore net, respectively.

That’s four records. The fifth one being the highest opening weekend collection ever by a Bollywood film. With Rs. 100.42 crore net in just three days (excluding previews), the film has created box office history and a new record that would be difficult to break.

At this pace, Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express could chug past even 3 Idiots as the highest all-time grosser.

The film, co-produced by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment and UTV Motion Pictures, will also be screened at a charity event in Kathmandu on Monday. The funds raised at the event will go to flood victims in Nepal through Mumbai-based NGO Project Crayon.
